Health and Safety Program Annual Update for Henry Ford College
Scope of Work :
ETC partnered with Osborn Engineering to support Indoor Air Quality (IAQ) testing as part of a major renovation project at Wilson Hall on the Oakland University campus. The IAQ work was performed to meet LEED v4.1 requirements and support the project’s sustainability goals.
The scope included pre-occupancy IAQ sampling across multiple areas of the building, with testing designed to meet LEED protocols for a range of chemical and particulate parameters. Sampling was conducted at eight locations throughout the renovated space.
ETC's Role :
ETC planned and executed the IAQ sampling program required for LEED v4.1 certification. This included deploying direct-read and data-logging instrumentation for carbon monoxide, ozone, and particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), as well as collecting air samples for laboratory analysis using EPA Method TO-11A.
Laboratory analysis covered aldehydes, total volatile organic compounds, and a targeted list of individual compounds associated with building materials and renovation activities. ETC managed sampling logistics, documentation, and quality control to ensure results met LEED requirements.
Following field work and analysis, ETC prepared a comprehensive IAQ report suitable for LEED submission, clearly documenting methods, results, and compliance with applicable criteria.
Results and Impact :
The completed IAQ assessment supported the award of two LEED v4.1 points for the Wilson Hall renovation project. The documentation provided a clear record of indoor air quality conditions at project closeout and supported the university’s broader sustainability and occupant health objectives.
ETC’s involvement helped ensure the IAQ component of the project was addressed efficiently and in alignment with certification requirements, without delaying project closeout or occupancy planning.
