Firearm Exchange Range Cleanup and Compliance Support
Scope of Work :
After a fire in the facility, Firearm Exchange needed a clear path to address contamination concerns and respond to a MIOSHA citation. ETC supported the investigation, cleanup oversight, and verification work so the range could return to normal operations with documented compliance.
- Sampled impacted areas to confirm the extent of surface contamination related to the fire.
- Identified which items and building surfaces required cleaning and which needed final verification testing.
- Provided sampling and on-site oversight throughout the cleanup process over a 10+ week period.
- Reviewed and updated site policies and procedures to align with current OSHA and EGLE expectations.
- Updated training and PPE practices for maintenance staff to reduce future exposure risk.
- Evaluated the HVAC systems serving both the building and the firing range to confirm they met applicable standards.
ETC's Role :
During cleanup, ETC remained actively involved on site, coordinating sampling, observing work practices, and confirming that cleaning methods and sequencing were appropriate for the type and extent of contamination present. This ongoing oversight helped prevent rework and supported timely, defensible decisions as conditions changed.
In parallel, ETC reviewed existing policies, procedures, and maintenance practices and updated them to reflect current regulatory standards. Training and PPE guidance for facility staff were also revised to address long-term exposure risks and day-to-day operations once the range returned to service.
Results and Impact :
Project Context
Firing ranges carry unique contamination risks even under normal conditions. In this case, the fire added another layer of concern and put extra pressure on documentation, verification, and day-to-day decision making during cleanup. ETC coordinated with the project team and stayed involved through each phase so the work could move forward without guesswork.
Outcome
With cleanup oversight and verification testing completed, Firearm Exchange was able to reopen and resume services. The project concluded with updated procedures and training practices that better supported ongoing compliance and safer maintenance work moving forward.
