Ongoing Asbestos and Mold Laboratory Analysis for Atlas Environmental
Scope of Work :
ETL has provided ongoing asbestos and mold laboratory analysis for Atlas Environmental since 2017. The work has supported a range of projects throughout Detroit, including assignments associated with the Detroit Land Bank Authority demolition program and Detroit Public Schools.
Laboratory services have primarily included Polarized Light Microscopy (PLM) asbestos analysis and mold analysis. During the height of the Detroit demolition program, ETL processed approximately 15,000 Atlas samples annually, including roughly 10,000 samples connected to the Land Bank program and more than 1,000 samples associated with Detroit Public Schools.
ETC's Role :
ETL serves as Atlas Environmental’s laboratory analysis provider, reviewing each assignment to confirm the project-specific analytical and reporting requirements before work begins. These requirements can vary by project and may include different instructions for drywall system homogenization, point counting, and positive-stop protocols.
The laboratory team verifies the required procedures for each sample set and checks that the final analysis and reporting align with Atlas’s instructions. This added review is especially important on projects where analytical criteria differ from one assignment to the next.
ETL also maintains the capacity to manage high-volume submissions within demanding schedules. Typical turnaround has been 72 hours, including during periods when the Detroit demolition program generated a significant and consistent sample volume.
Results and Impact :
Atlas Environmental remains an active ETL client after nearly a decade of laboratory support. During the Detroit Land Bank Authority demolition program, ETL consistently managed high sample volumes while maintaining project-specific reporting requirements and dependable turnaround times.
On one large assignment, ETL completed analysis of 600 samples within three days. No errors were identified during the quality-control review. This performance reflected the laboratory’s ability to combine capacity, accuracy, and responsiveness on time-sensitive work.
The long-term relationship has given Atlas access to a laboratory team familiar with its project requirements, helping reduce repeated explanations and support consistent analytical results across a wide range of assignments.
