Environmental Compliance and Safety Program for the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy

Scope of Work :

The United States Merchant Marine Academy (USMMA) faced key environmental and safety compliance challenges, requiring updated infrastructure assessments and alignment with federal standards. ETC’s scope of work addressed these needs through a coordinated program of assessments, planning, and oversight.

  • Updated asbestos surveys to current federal and state standards.
  • Conducted lead-based paint surveys and risk evaluations.
  • Reviewed building envelopes and performed mold/moisture investigations to identify structural and health risks.
  • Coordinated and managed abatement and remediation activities with on-site oversight.
  • Developed documentation and reporting to support regulatory compliance and project tracking.

ETC's Role :

ETC guided USMMA toward full regulatory compliance and improved safety by identifying and assessing environmental issues and managing their resolution. We developed and implemented Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for addressing key environmental concerns, fostering a proactive and repeatable approach to campus safety.

In addition, ETC provided targeted training to USMMA staff, equipping them to maintain compliance, implement SOPs, and manage environmental risks effectively. This approach addressed immediate requirements and established a foundation for long-term environmental stewardship at the Academy.
