Asbestos Abatement Worker – Initial

The Asbestos Abatement Worker (Initial) Course is an EPA/State of Michigan accreditation course that is required in order to perform asbestos abatement activities within the State of Michigan

This four-day (32 hour) course teaching the fundamentals of performing asbestos abatement activities, including: historic uses of asbestos, health effects, asbestos removal and containment methods, cleaning up after asbestos projects, personnel protective equipment & respirator use, employee decontamination, and proper waste disposal. This course includes the State-approved exam for individual certification, after which attendees are eligible to submit certification and fees to the State of Michigan to become licensed as asbestos abatement workers.

Please Note: As per Michigan Public Act 135, outside contractors and their employees who engage in the removal of asbestos from buildings must first become a licensed asbestos abatement worker or supervisor, and work for a licensed asbestos abatement contractor (company). Further, this same act requires that these certifications be renewed annually (see under Refresher training). While the required applications and exam are provided during the training course, the fees for this licensing are not included in the cost of the training course.
