January is Radon Awareness: Protecting Your Home and Health

Radon is a naturally occurring gas that can be found in the soil and can seep into homes through cracks in the foundation or other openings. It is the leading cause of lung cancer among non-smokers and is responsible for thousands of deaths each year. The only way to know if your home has elevated levels of radon is to have it tested.

Our newsletter features information about the State of Michigan's Radon awareness efforts, and a link helpful questions and answers about radon for you, your family or your clients!

Microbial Recreational Water Testing

Recreational water, such as pools and water parks, can be a breeding ground for harmful microorganisms if not properly maintained. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that all public pools and water parks be regularly tested for bacteria such as E. coli and Legionella.

Proper chlorine and pH levels must be maintained to kill off these microorganisms and prevent outbreaks of illness. The CDC also recommends that pool operators conduct routine testing for other contaminants such as Crypto (cryptosporidium) and Giardia.

ETL is proud to announce they have partnered with the city of Livonia to test various recreational water sources within the next few months. You can check to see if you, or your clients may need microbial testing by checking out Wayne County's guidelines here.  ETL can help get your recreational water supplies tested accurately and in a timely manner, and with as little hassle as possible.
